After digging a little deeper, I discovered that she had brought her favorite stuffed rhino into court that day, and it was destroyed in the explosion. With Apollo's rescue added to the testimony, another inconsistency pops up as Juniper starts to show sadness when talking about being rescued. Apollo's eye and arm injuries also start to make more sense if he was shielding Juniper from the blast. It seems she has a bit of a crush on the young spikey-haired defense attorney, so his heroic act accounted for her incongruous mood.
By pressing her on it, I was able to find out that Apollo Justice was in court that day, and had rescued Juniper from falling debris. It turns out that Juniper Woods is hiding something after all, since along with fear there is a brief tinge of happiness in her voice when describing the moment of the explosion. If one of the witness's moods doesn't make sense with what they are saying, Phoenix can call them out on it to dig deeper into their testimony. By activating a pendant on her necklace, Athena can use a Minority Report-style interface to sense moods like happy, scared, sad, or angry in a witness's voice. Her recollection of the events is a little hazy though, so Phoenix must call upon his new assistant, Athena Cykes, and her mood matrix ability to help crack open the case.

After cross-examining a shady bomb disposal expert by the name of Ted Tonate (yes, it sounds like "detonate," name puns are back in full effect in Dual Destinies) it is time for Ms. Having a giant 3D Phoenix Wright head pop out of the screen while yelling "Objection!" just seems like the way the series was always meant to be played. The series' signature eccentric characters and flair for overdramatic gestures is taken to new heights with animated 3D models. In still screenshots the 3D character models simply resemble spiffed up versions of Phoenix Wright and company, but it takes on a whole new life when seeing it in motion. The difference is that it all looks much prettier on the 3DS.
